EYFS Curriculum
EYFS Curriculum
At Raising Explorers Nursery, we follow the statutory EYFS framework to provide a broad, balanced, and engaging curriculum that meets the needs of every child. We recognise that each child is unique and that learning and development take place through rich play experiences, secure relationships, and a well-planned environment.
Aims
We aim to:
- Provide a curriculum that meets all areas of the EYFS statutory framework.
- Support holistic development through child-led and adult-guided learning.
- Promote British Values, inclusion, and respect for all individuals.
- Prepare children for school readiness and lifelong learning.
EYFS Learning and Development Areas
We support children across the seven areas of learning and development, which include:
Prime Areas (crucial for igniting curiosity and building capacity to learn):
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Specific Areas (develop essential skills and knowledge):
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
Implementation of the Curriculum
- We use play-based learning, supported by well-trained staff who observe, scaffold, and extend children's interests.
- The curriculum is flexible, evolving with the children’s needs, interests, and developmental stages.
- We follow a key person approach to build trusting relationships and support individual progress.
- We incorporate themes, seasonal topics, and cultural events to enrich learning experiences.
- Outdoor learning is promoted as essential to children's physical and mental wellbeing.
Planning and Assessment
- Practitioners carry out regular observations and assessments to understand each child’s development.
- We use development matters and/or Birth to 5 Matters to support planning and tracking progress.
- Each child has a learning journey (digital or paper-based) that documents their achievements and next steps.
- Parents are involved in assessment through ongoing communication and shared observations.
Inclusion and Differentiation
- The curriculum is adapted to suit each child’s individual needs, including those with SEND or EAL.
- We ensure that every child has equal access to learning and can achieve their full potential.
- Activities are planned to be challenging but achievable, based on children's interests and capabilities.
Parental Engagement
- Parents are seen as partners in learning.
- We hold regular parent meetings, share learning journeys, and provide suggestions for home learning.
- We welcome parent contributions to activities, celebrations, and curriculum ideas.
Quality and Continuous Improvement
- Staff receive regular training and supervision to ensure the delivery of a high-quality curriculum.
- Planning and practice are monitored and evaluated regularly by the management team.
- We reflect on children’s progress, staff feedback, and parent input to develop our curriculum approach.
